No, our services are only intended to support and supplement your existing home school program. We also provide consultations with parents on the many traditional and non-traditional schooling options outside of public schools.

A learning specialist is different than a tutor in that we assess and teach individualized learning strategies to help get to the bottom of why students are struggling, and we help them develop efficient learning strategies for overcoming some of those challenges.

Executive function is a set of mental skills that include short-term memory, flexible thinking, and self-control among others. We use these skills every day to learn, work, and manage daily life. Students who have trouble with executive functioning skills find it difficult to focus, follow directions, handle emotions, among other things. We will assess their weaknesses and develop strategies for overcoming them. Many students struggle in middle school and high school because they lack some executive functioning skills, not because of their aptitude at school.

Our after-school tutorials are 60 minute intensive academic sessions with a 2:1 ratio. Instruction is explicit, direct, scaffolded, and science-based. Instruction is individualized for each student; we rotate students throughout the session with direct instruction, independent practice, educational applications, and some processing and motivational breaks as needed. The 2:1 ratio allows students time to apply the learning, which is a key component of learning.

Our programs are month-to-month, however in order to give my waitlist sufficient notice, we require a 30 day notice for terminating services.

Rates vary depending on program offerings and hours. Please contact us for rate information.

Over the years we have found that students have a huge range of learning styles, and no single curriculum works for everyone. As we get to know students’ learning styles, we customize their lessons from various curricula to fit their unique needs. It is how the curriculum is taught and delivered that is a critical driving factor in students learning and retaining material. In other words, it all comes down to good, solid teaching.

For progress to happen, sessions need to be consistent and intensive, so we typically ask for a minimum of two sessions per week.
