Our Instructional Approach

Our math instruction is explicit, direct, and science-based. Our approach uses a spiral approach, meaning we constantly go back and review topics, adding depth and meaning while building on previously learned skills with new ones. 

Having a strong foundation in math is crucial to a student’s future math success. In addition to building a strong foundation in student’s math skills,  we also help rebuild students’ confidence and belief in their math abilities. We will assess their current levels and tailor our individualized curriculum to meet each student where they are, filling any previous year’s gaps as needed. We will also differentiate and work with their school curriculum and teach learning strategies to better access their classroom content.

We specialize in meaningful math instruction and rebuilding a student’s academic confidence in math.

Also built into each math lesson is literacy instruction. We practice reading and developing math vocabulary within each lesson. Finally, we do a lot of work with executive functioning skills and teaching students organization, planning, follow through, etc. Middle school is a critical time for honing these skills, as students are learning to tackle multiple classes, teachers, and increased expectations.
